Senior Tax Manager

gish SEIDEN has an excellent leadership opportunity for a highly-experienced tax professional. We are looking for an individual to lead our tax practice into the future. Success in this position requires deep knowledge of complex individual tax issues. In addition, expertise in trust and estate taxes is preferred.

Relationship to Others:

  • Develop and maintain relationships with outside professionals (i.e. attorneys, bankers, certified financial planners, financial and wealth advisors, insurance, pension consultants, etc.)
  • Maintain a professional relationship with clients

 

Role as Senior Tax Manager:

  • Perform quality review of all tax work products
  • Primary person for keeping current with tax laws and recommending tax planning opportunities
  • Analyze complicated tax issues and develop recommendations for implementation
  • Maintain the highest of professional standards for the Firm
  • Develop tax knowledge of the staff

 

Day to Day Responsibilities:

  • Primary person checking all Personal, Gift Tax, Exempt Organization, Estate, and Trust income tax returns prepared by the staff and Partners. Secondary person checking all C Corporation, S Corporation, Partnership, LLC, LLP, and Benefit Plan returns and to ensure accuracy and compliance with technical issues and completeness based on the Firm’s and government standards
  • Preparation and/or review of form 706’s
  • Monitor the tax return checking review drawers to ensure that good workflow is maintained
  • Discuss review notes with staff to teach, tutor and coach their professional knowledge and growth within the Firm
  • Lead/perform higher level tax research and consulting projects
  • Communication with the COO and Scheduler regarding client work commitments, staff assignments and upcoming deadlines
  • Responsible for developing and supporting the Firm’s learning plan
  • Approve staff prepared correspondence to Government Agencies for tax notices, etc. before Partner’s signature
  • Perform or assist Partners and staff with tax research projects
  • Conduct personal income tax interviews
  • Preparation of personal income tax returns
  • Perform or assist Partners with income tax audits

 

Other Responsibilities:

  • Active member of the Tax Committee
  • Recommend changes and updates to the Firm’s Accounting Manual (Tax Section)
  • Participate in tax specialist subgroups of Nexia International
  • Participate in performance reviews of accounting staff
  • Participate in staff coaching and mentoring programs

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree with emphasis in Accounting, Finance or other related area
  • Masters in Taxation is preferred
  • California CPA license
  • Minimum of ten years of recent professional work experience in public accounting
  • Demonstrated ability to train and develop staff
  • Demonstrated projected management skills
  • Exposure to International taxation laws is preferred
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills

2020 Winter Internship

We are currently accepting applications for students to work part-time with us during our busy season from February – April 2020. Our team is looking for hard-working, detail-oriented accounting interns that possesses a solid understanding of accounting and tax principles. You should be collaborative, trustworthy, receptive to feedback, and eager to learn. Interns will gain valuable experience working on real clients and preparing real tax returns. Interns will also get a chance to work directly with partners, managers and staff while getting immense exposure to CPA firm life during our busiest time of the year.

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Completion of ACCT 350 by December 2019
  • Working towards B.S. degree in Accounting
  • A minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Must have reliable mode of transportation to work

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to work effectively on a team
  • Ability to work and multitask in a fast-paced environment
